Welcome 2 MiRandom

I miss critiques! so i am opening this blog up 2 any1 interested in critique and who would like to know what MiRandom is all about. Welcome 2 MiRandom was my painting exhibit that opened last week. I had a show at PlanB in NYC, but did not share the intent of my work at the show. In the past I have written artist statements to accompany my work, but choose not 2 this time. In true MiRandom style i changed my mind, and am trying 2 put in2 words..who really is Mirandom

The series was created after I painted "SOUND" I say this because I approached "SOUND" (yellow joint with profile of black woman) in a way that the other paintings followed: by asking 1. what am i feeling? 2. what is important to me right now? 3. what does my emotion feel like, look like and want to SAY? These might seem like simple questions, but expressing my emotions have always been difficult. So in a attempt to release myself I painted and collage 34 pieces for Welcome 2 Mirandom {17 have sold already!!!!!!!} Every painting is depicting a woman with text. Each woman is different but are all ME. I do not feel like the Miranda that came from RI most of the time. I feel like the women I watch in the street, on tv, on stage,,etc because we call carry the weight of the words i wrote.

My graphic and colorful style lightens the intent (which i like) but as I present Welcome 2 MiRandom to you, I present myself to ME. The show was extremely successful, and the turnout overwhelmed me. Not because I sold work but because I needed proof that i have support as MiRandom the artist and person! This year has been difficult to say the least, but it keeps on looking up thanks to all the people that care about me!!! Art is about sharing. By default I am a loner type that has a hard time trusting my emotions outside their shell, but as long as they are understood I will do my best to keep them free! "LIVE FREE" became the cover art because of this.
